Welcome to the Color My Heart color dare. We now have 100 followers; YAY! Thanks to everyone for your support. And thanks to the 16 entries we had last week. They blew me away!
Congrats to the winner:
Shelly Nemitz - I love the B&T's in strips and the Token Alphabet in matching colors!
Ruth's pick:
Cheryl Even - Ruth loves Cheryl's photos and the beautiful sunburst!
Franny's pick:
Tamytha Jenkins - Franny likes the simplicity of her card. It's very understated, yet it meets the color requirements.
Our color dare for this week is to pick a current Level 2 paper packet and add a new color to it.
Lesson: Go through and look at some of our previous posts. If you look at our current packs, you will see that some of them have monochromatic colors, some have analagous colors, some have complimentary, some have triadic, etc. If you take something that you've learned from us, and apply it to a paper pack adding an additional color or two, you will have something that is pleasing to the eye.
For example: I used the Mojo Monday sketch and chose Stella for my project. Stella has Tulip, Sunset (analagous), Olive and Lagoon (also analagous) for the main colors. I went ahead and added Buttercup (yellow), and Smokey Plum (purple), and I got a full spectrum of the color wheel (as per last week's lesson).
Ruth chose Sonoma for her layout. Sonoma uses monochromatic purple shades. She added Buttercup to create complimentary colors. This layout works so well!
Franny made a card using the Dotty for You papers, and a previous RetroSketch. She copied the design of this card from Allisa over at RockyMountainPaperCrafts. Go check her out - she's fabulous! Franny used the blue, green and grey striped pattern and the Lagoon dotted pattern. She stamped her sentiment in Key Lime and inked up her seam binding ribbon in Key Lime as well. This made for a subtler addition - just slightly brighter than the Sweet Leaf in the paper.
Cheryl Even, our winner from last week, chose Roxie as her paper pack. The leopard and zebra prints are very neutral, and she added Sunset and Topiary. These are two secondary colors (we will talk more about secondary colors at a later date). This is very beautiful, Cheryl!
Here's what you do: Create a project using a current paper pack with one or two added colors (cardstock, ink, other B&Ts), take a photo of it, upload it to your blog, and link your blog post at the bottom of this page. Feel free to add any of our neutrals to your project.
You will get bonus points if you use 100% current CTMH products, but it's not a requirement (just use something from CTMH). This week, you will also get bonus points if you go find a sketch from some other source and use that for your project. We need to get our name out there!!! Frosted designs is a good one for layouts or cards. Mojo Monday, Freshly Made, or Retro Sketches are good ones for cards. (If you have any other blogs with sketches for layouts, I'd love to know about them).
Have fun!

Color Dare #5
Hi! Welcome back to Color my Heart. Thanks to all 9 of you who played along last week. Scroll down to see all the entries in the previous post. We are up to 95 followers! Almost 100; yay!
Congratulations to Cheryl Even! She is the winner of the primary colors dare:
Franny's pick: Shelly Nemitz
Ruth's pick: Annette Clark
This week's color dare is: Create-your-own Rainbow based on the color wheel.
Lesson: This is going to be a very Elementary lesson on the color wheel.
There are 3 primary colors: red, yellow, and blue. When you mix the primary colors, for example: yellow and blue or blue and red, you get secondary colors. The secondary colors are green, orange and purple. Then, when you go even deeper, you can mix the secondary colors with the primary colors. This week we are focusing on primary and secondary colors. These colors are very pleasing to the eye when placed in this order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple. This is the order of the colors in a rainbow. (I love rainbows because they are God's promise to us that he will never flood the earth again.)
Close to my Heart has many shades of these colors. Your assignment is to pick any shade of these 6 colors (it must be all 6), and use them on your project. Feel free to use any of our neutrals.
I made a simple stamped card with these 6 colors: Barn Red, Autumn Terracotta, Sunflower, New England Ivy, Indian Corn Blue, and Smokey Plum. I used Love Life, Just for You!, and Lucy WOTG stamp set. I stamped on White Daisy, and layered it onto a Barn Red card. I put a bitty Sparkle on each butterfly and a White Daisy ribbon next to the sentiment.
Ruth's card is really clever. I love how she combined the treasure at the end of the rainbow pot-o-gold from Pair-a-Phrase and paired it with the sentiment from Treasured Friend. And then she emphasized it with a blooming rainbow square made from CTMH cardstock. Her colors are: Cranberry, Sunset, Sunkiss Yellow, Pear, Moonstruck, and Amethyst. And to top it all off, she embossed the image in gold and added a beautiful sheer gold ribbon with a button. So pretty, Ruth!
And here is a special treat from our guest designer, the winner from last week: Jody Gustafson!
Isn't this a beautiful mini album cover? I love how Jody used B&T's from all different paper packs to make a very eye-catching rainbow!!! Head over to her blog to see the insides of this gorgeous album.
Bonus points: add some stamping to your project. If you use 100%, current CTMH products, you can also earn bonus points.
Here's what you do: Create a project using the featured colors, take a picture of it and upload it to your blog. Include a link to this site in your post, and link your post up at the bottom of this page. Enjoy!

Color Dare #4
Hi everyone and welcome back to the Color My Heart color dare, the Close to My Heart exclusive color challenge. I'm so excited we're up to 90 followers. Only 10 more and we'll have 100!!!! And thanks to the 5 of you who joined in last week!
Congrats to Jody Gustafson for being the winner of Color Dare #3! Her card out of the idea book was perfect!
Franny's Pick: Amie Kiger!
Ruth's pick: Shelly Nemitz!
Our challenge for this week will be Triadic colors:
Cranberry
Sunkiss Yellow
Sky
Lesson: Triadic colors are 3 colors that are equal distances apart from one another on the color wheel. In this case, I chose primary colors (I will talk more about primary and secondary colors next week). Triadic colors work best when you use one color as your main color, the second as your secondary color, and the third as your accent.
I chose these colors in particular because they work well with our Superhero kit. For that reason I am also allowing Moonstruck on your projects.
On my card, I used yellow as my main color, with blue as the secondary color, and I accented with red. It's a silly one! I made it for my husband for Father's Day, and he doesn't like generic superheroes. So I just had to add the Superman stickers :)

Paper: Sunkiss Yellow and Cranberry cardstock
Other: Superhero Level 2 compliments rub-ons, Superman stickers (not CTMH)
Franny used white as her neutral, blue as her main color with red as the secondary color, and a pop of yellow with the seam binding ribbon.

Materials used:
Paper: White card, Sky cardstock
Stamps: Country life, Universal Backgrounds
Inks: Cranberry, Sky, Moonstruck, Sunkiss Yellow
Other: Color-ready Seam Binding Ribbon
Ruth also made a Father's Day card for her husband:
Ruth used the Superhero B&T with Moonstruck and Black cardstock for the cityscape (from the Schoolbook Cricut cartridge). Her base is Grey Flannel. She used sparkles for the windows, Comic Badge Buttons, black pearls and a Superman sticker (not CTMH). Here's the inside of her card:
And now we have a special treat from our guest designer, the winner from last week, Julia Hammond!
The candles on this card are stamped with D1280 Spot On Background. Julia used
Moonstruck ink on the Sky and Moonstuck candles and Cranberry on the Cranberry
candle. The sentiment is stamped in Moonstruck on Sky cardstock with a
sentiment from the Art Philosophy collection. This is so creative and whimsical - I love it!
Bonus Points: I have a feeling you'll be using the Superhero kit for this one. You don't have to, but if you do, I'll give you bonus points if you make it a Level 2 project, ie. instead of stamps, use the rub-ons! And as always, you get bonus points for using 100% current CTMH products! (none for me this week.)
So get to it! All you have to do is make a project using the featured colors, take a picture of it, and upload it to your blog. Include a link to this blog in your post, and link up your post (not the blog, just the post) at the bottom of this page. Have fun!
